Chiggers galore would be more accurate and I don’t seem to be able to get rid of them. When I first came to the USA in the early 1970s I learned about mosquitoes and cuddies and of course chiggers. Initially I thought of them as mythical critters, created by peoples’ imagination to add some spice to life. But that proved wrong when I experienced my first mosquito bite that almost put me in the hospital with an allergic reaction. Cuddies however, I’ve never caught; and so it was a big surprise when I discovered the little red menace called Chiggers right here in Wisconsin.
In case you are unaware of what this microscopic critter looks like I have located some exquisite pictures for you.
Here you have the beast, courtesy of Wikipedia:
I know, that does not look very menacing. But wait… how is this for a closer look?
Yup, it gives me the shivers too. Along with the photo there are some interesting details about Chiggers in the July-August edition of the Audubon magazine. I encourage you to read it.
