Last night during her first break as a second shift nurse, our Godchild’s mom Renee called me to let me know that she and Madison had been held up at gunpoint the evening before. The assailant was a thirteen year old boy who put a gun to Renee’s head as she was strapping Madison into her car seat. Thankfully Renee was able to talk him into letting them go without harming them.
I remember how difficult it is to be a single parent in a city as big and diverse as Chicago and I am thankful that our girls were not harmed. At least I do not have to worry about my daughter who is safely tucked away in a little town in Minnesota, where she lives happily with a loving husband and three strapping boys.
