Migration is proceeding with all due speed this Autumn and our own Hummers have left Sontheim.
That does not, however, stop the nectar production at this point. It merely means that all the plumped up birds are gone and that every day a few skinny ones appear anew. They come from as far North as Canada and use our feeders as a refueling station. My mom very aptly calls our place a ‘Tankstelle for Kolibrie’ and that’s not far from the truth.
I have taken some pictures to show what our Tankstelle looks like at this time of year.
See how skinny this girl is as she peeks at the camera. These birds are very shy, unlike our own who will hover right in front of me as if to greet me in the morning.
