It is with great sadness that I announce the death of our cat Stanley. Today at 12:30 pm Stan went to the great hunting ground in the big sky.
Stan had been very ill since last Saturday when he came down with repeated bouts of vomiting and diarrhea. It was pitiful to watch him in his ongoing misery and I comforted him as much as possible. Sunday he started to rally and I was hopeful he would pull through to a complete recovery, as he had done several times before.
Rally he did, but without a full retun of his appetite. His litter boxes clearly showed that he took food sparinly but water in great quantities. And so I spend the week watching him sleep in all of his favorite paces.
When not asleep he followed me around to get petted.
Today it was time to help him go on his final journey and I assume that he has safely arrived wherever it is warrior cats go to spend eternity.
So let me say:
“Thank you Stan my little warrior cat!
It’s been a great adventure for you – starting out at an animal shelter in Chicago almost two decades ago – moving to Minnesota with your beloved Vanessa – watching her family grow with kids and dogs, rabbits and chicks – and finally returning to me to retire in Wisconsin as an indoor cat.”
Bon voyage my Stanley Cat!
May the Great Spirit greet you on the other side!
… the wind has stopped
quiet is the autumn grass
