Ah what a day!
The snow disappears, a light rain mists the air, and migrating birds are everywhere.
It is good to see green peaking out after the long snow that covered the land since December.
Water-logged the land squishes under every step and the buds are still asleep – but the air is mild and carries a promise of Spring.
Sophia and Lilly are happily settled after a muddy romp through the orchard and I am reading a poem that is perfect for today:
Open the windows.
Everyone in the house is happier. The house
is happier, fresh air
in our mouths—finally. Purple finches
singing on the wire, one finch singing
out his scarlet brains. Everyone
is happier, even the chair
beside the window, the cat
in the chair more possessed of the moment
than Buddha. All the windows are open,
coffee is up, and you laugh, pointing—
“The groundhog’s out!”
